Here we have listed a number of common questions people ask us about our HostBreak VPS server hosting services.

What is VPS?
VPS/VDS: Virtual Private/Dedicated Servers fill the gap between shared hosting and a dedicated server, it's a bit like 'broadband' hosting, all the benefits of a dedicated server without the worry.

Control: A virtual private server gives you root access to the system, this allows you to modify server configuration files, install applications or modify system software, in a shared environment you have to rely on server settings that are 'best fit' for all clients and this may not suit your needs.

Can I connect to my Windows VPS using Remote Desktop/Terminal Services?
Yes, you can connect to your Virtual Private Server using Remote Desktop. Remote Desktop is a feature built into Windows XP that allows you to connect and manage remote server systems.

How long will it take before I have access to my VPS?
Normal setup time for a VPS is usually a few hours after your order has been verified. However, during peak times it can take up to 48 hours.

What types of Programs can I install on my VPS?
You will have full control over your Virtual Private Server. You will be able to install any program or exe that is supported by the Windows Server 2003 operating system.

What version of Windows Server will my Windows VPS have?
By default your Windows VPS will come with Windows Server 2003 Stnd. Edition.

How many domain names can I host on my VPS?
You will have full control over your Windows Virtual Private Server. You will be able to install an unlimited number of domain on your VPS.

Will you manage the VPS for me ?
All HostBreak VPS Servers are considered Unmanaged. We are able to provide our VPS servers to you at low prices as you do not pay a monthly fee for our tech support. This means that you are responsible for the daily operations and management of the server. Software installations, server management, configuration, backups and updates are your responsibility. Please note that we do offer server management services at the rate of $45.00 per hour. This does not give you a guarantee in terms of service time, reaction time or that the problem will be resolved.

Will ASP.NET be installed on my Windows virtual private server?
Yes, ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0 will be install on your Windows VPS by default.

How many fixed IP addresses do I get?
That depends on your package, minimum 2 IPs.

Can I Install/Uninstall Programs and run Windows Services?
Yes, you will have full control over your Windows Virtual Server. You will be able to install and run any program supported by the operating system.

Will I be able to Install Custom Software in my Windows VPS?
Yes, you will have full control over your Windows Virtual Server. You will be able to install and run any custom software supported by the operating system.

What VPS Platform do you use?
We use Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2. Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2 is a well-supported server virtualization technology for the Windows Server System platform.

Will I have Administrator access to my Windows VPS?
Yes, HostBreak VPS performs and operates exactly like a stand-alone dedicated server. The functionality is equal. You will have full Administrator Access over the entire Windows Server 2003 System.

Is my Windows VPS Protected with a Firewall ?
All HostBreak servers are protected by Visnetic/BlackIce Intrusion Prevention Systems.

Will Windows Updates be installed automatically ?
Yes, by default each VPS is configured with Windows Updates automatically installed.

How many other VPS accounts will share the hardware with me?
The short answer is: It doesn't matter!

The long answer is: This is the great thing about Virtual Server 2005 and is one of the main reasons why HostBreak has chosen this virtualization software. Virtual Server 2005 does not allow Virtual Private Servers to "steal" system resources. Each customer is allotted a set amount of disk space, CPU usage and Memory. A customer is not able to go over these set limits thus eliminating the possibility that customers will be able to negatively effect the performance of other VPS accounts by consuming more resources than they are allotted. Other virtualization software products DO NOT set these hard limits very well, giving the customer the ability to "steal" resources from other VPS accounts on the same hardware object. This results in sluggish performance and has resulted in giving VPS offerings a reputation of being less dependable.

Our Hardware and Software
We own all of our hardware and software. We use Intel Dual-Core Xeons CPUs or Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs. The servers have between 6GB and 12GB of RAM, and multiple SCSI drives set in a RAID configuration.
